openSUSE Tumbleweed – Review of the week 2016/2

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,

Another week – some new snapshots: 5 to be precise (0108, 0110, 0111, 0112 and 0113 will hit the mirrors soon). Sadly, the automatic snapshot announcements did no go out since 0111, something we will be looking at next week and then resume to automatic announcements of new snapshots.

So, what fun things did the snapshots bring last week:

  • KDE Applications 5.12.0 completed – incl. spectacle
  • NetworkManager 1.0.10, vpn plugins 1.0.8
  • lightdm 1.17.3
  • Linux kernel 4.4 (in 20160113!)
  • GTK+ 3.18.6 & Nautilus: external media is properly listed for eject again

Things currently in Staging are:

  • Systemd 228 (still pending on boo#960669)
  • libproxy 0.4.12 – should finally fix crashes in KDE where Qt5 based apps loaded Qt4 libs
  • Some pattern changes: Plasma5 will use KDEPIM5 by default
  • Plasma 5.5.3 / KDE Framework 5.18: on a fresh install, the desktop layout looks broken; see: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/113806/modules/first_boot/steps/1 )

With this, I release you all into a well deserved weekend – but rest assured: Tumbleweed keeps on rolling over the weekend
