Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
This week saw the release of 7 snapshots (1008, 1009, 1010, 1011, 1012, 1013, and 1014).
It has been an intensely busy week for Tumbleweed, clearing out several major items from our outlook. High on the list, libvirt 12.8.0 arrived in snapshot 1009, joined by python-setuptools 84.0.0 once the build issue in gobject-introspection was ironed out. In addition, the long-standing libnettle 4.0 transition has finally made its way into the published repository after weeks of anticipation.
Desktop environments and foundational libraries also saw substantial deliveries. KDE users received the latest monthly maintenance release with KDE Gear 26.08.2 spanning snapshots 1010 and 1011, alongside KDE Frameworks 6.31.0. The web and graphical stacks gained Mozilla Firefox 157.0.1, WebKitGTK 2.54.1, HarfBuzz 14.6.0, and GStreamer 1.28.8, while GNOME’s file manager stepped up to Nautilus 50.4. Under the hood, Linux Kernel rolled out version 7.2.10 in snapshot 1014, flanked by Grub2 2.16, OpenSSH 10.6p1, Git 2.56.0, and QEMU 11.1.2.
As always with a rapid cadence, a couple of items required quick interventions. A patch added to mutter in snapshot 1008 aimed at improving Wayland selection serials for Emacs ended up breaking clipboard copy and paste in Firefox and other tools, prompting an immediate revert in snapshot 1013 (boo#1284143). In a similar vein, ktextaddons 2.2.0 required a prompt follow-up patch to mend an unexpected ABI break affecting mail and text components. Meanwhile, cups-filters received further hardening in snapshot 1009 to ensure its serial backend no longer runs with root permissions.
