I have been away from my build host for too long, but as many of you doubtless realized: in time for the VLC 1.0.6 release the repository is fully back on track and the latest packages have landed (ok: this post is a bit late: the packages have been there for a while and you all enjoy them).
The ChangeLog for VLC 1.0.6 reads:

Please update to VLC 1.1.0 which provides an FFmpeg-based RTMP
input if needed.

VLC 1.1.0 branched in upstream git
VLC 1.1.0 has been branched and is quickly heading towards a release. git MASTER by now already tracks VLC 1.2.0. The vlc-beta packages in the VideoLAN repo have always been tracking git master, and as such also represent VLC 1.2.0 (very early development!) at this stage.
As soon as VLC 1.1.0 is ready for final users, the packages will be available to all of you as quick as possible again.
Don’t forget to package phonon-vlc, Qt’s back-end to play back sounds and videos via libvlc. It requires VLC 1.1, so packaging it by the same person certainly makes sense.
I agree. this should fly in the repo as well. I’ll start working on this package and I think that together with the 1.1 release of VLC the package will be available (but probably untested by me, as I do not use phonon) So looking forward to your tests here 🙂

Excuse me disturbing you (on holiday 🙂 ). Where can I find an “official vlc 1.0.6 opensuse” installable version? I should downgrade because the 1.0.99 version has some errors. I have tried the opensuse repositories and

Michael, No worries. There is no holiday here at the moment. So no disturbance 🙂
As for vlc 1.0.6: those packages are outdated with 1.1.0 being released in a very short time. And without a report on what is broken (compared to what worked in 1.0.6) chances might be low to get it fixed 🙂
As for 1.0 series: I might give it a try and package up vlc-legacy for a short time, so you could at least to your things. But it will take a short while (mainly build process time)

I have a series of scripts and all of them became useless. It happened 1 week ago and I cannot downgrade.
And – tell the truth – I have never heard on that solution when the developers change the NAME of the existing, tested programs, modules, variables, etc. after launching an official version (telnet to oldtelnet, I mean) as the vlc developers did (as they say, because of the environment change). What about the existing scripts, programs on the rest of the world which were builded into it as I did?
And – I think – they could not rebuild the whole castle if they wanted to change the doors and windows on the building… :)… the test is as valuable as the code, I think (never touch the running system 🙂 ).
I tried the 1.2.0, but ti is also wrong (other error).

I’m experiencing similar troubles with 1.1.1 (and 1.2.0 as well) like venember. Could it be possible to share VLC 1.0.6 binaries for OpenSUSE 11.2? I’m in a big trouble as my program does not work now and I cannot fix it. Please help me.
