Review of the weeks 2018/34 & 35

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,

During the last weeks, the issues reported in my previous report, about openQA, have been resolved and Tumbleweed is back in a rolling state – where we can also rely on the test results again. As before, tested does not mean 100% error free, but at least to a degree where we can believe again what it tells us. This also means we could release 6 snapshots during the last two weeks (0815, 0818, 0820, 0827, 0828 and 0829)

The noteworthy updates in these snapshots were:

  • Binutils 2.31
  • Linux kernel 4.17.14, 4.18.0 & 4.18.5
  • XEN 4.11.0
  • Wayland 1.15.0
  • KDE Applications 18.08.0
  • KDE Frameworks 5.49.0
  • RPM packaging changes: the SUSE specific configuration is being moved to a separate package
  • NetworkManager 1.12.2 (we got reports about connection issues after resume)
  • util-linux 2.32.1

A couple of the things repored two weeks ago are still in staging:

  • ncurses 6.1-20180707: breaks Xen (deprecations added, Xen builds with -Werror)
  • Usage of the new System Role selection instead of the legacy ‘desktop selection’
  • Python 3.7
  • glibc 2.28; the split of libxcrypt causes some build failures
  • openssl 1.1.1
  • Boost 1.68
