Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,

After the stop of new snapshots after 0913 due to identified upgrade issues, I decided to revert the pieces that made it surface and caused the risk of installations breaking (glibc/libnls,libnss_nis and libnss_compat). The underlying YaST/libzypp/libsolv issue is not solved with this, but the risk level for your machine is at the same it was for the last years (no current occurrence is known where this caused issues, or they were well hidden). Since the revert, there have been four snapshots released (0924, 0925, 0927 and 0928).

Those snapshots brought the long-awaited updates like:

  • Mesa 17.2.1
  • KDE Frameworks 5.38.0
  • Digikam 5.7.0
  • Linux Kernel 4.13.3
  • PulseAudio 11.1
  • Python 3.6.2
  • Ruby 2.5 – and all RubyGems built for 2.4 and 2.5 (default not switched yet)
  • The standard compiler flags include -fstack-clash-protection
  • GStreamer 1.12.3

The following upgrades/features are being forged in staging projects:

  • KDE Plasma 5.11.0
  • Perl 5.26 (important: $CWD is no longer in @INC)
  • MozillaFirefox 55.0
  • PostgreSQL 10.0

Thank you all for the great contributions – keep them coming
