openSUSE Tumbleweed – Review of the Week 2017/05

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,

The year has started in full swing and the last week brought you 6 snapshots (0127, 0128, 0129, 0130, 0131 and 0201). Snapshot 0202 was held back in order to fix some detected issues in the new boost versions.

Nevertheless, you received some nice updates during this week:

  • systemd 232 – which resulted again in a lot of discussion around plymouth
  • Mozilla Firefox 51.0.1 – now with the GTK3 interface
  • Linux kernel 4.9.6
  • sed 4.3
  • KDE Frameworks 5.30.0
  • KDE Plasma 5.9.0

And as you expect from openSUSE Tumbleweed, things keep on rolling and a lot is being prepared already in staging areas:

  • Linux kernel 4.9.7
  • Libreoffice 5.3
  • GStreamer 0.10 is no longer provided (since snapshot 0203)
  • rpm 4.13.0 – support for filetriggers
  • NetworkManager 1.6.0

I appreciate that Tumbleweed is a rolling distro but plasma 5.9 released on the 31st January and included in the snapshot of the 31st January is some going! Well done to all.
