openSUSE Tumbleweed – Review of the Week 2016/49

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,

I’m sure nobody doubted it, but Tumbleweed is back on the roll! And in fact, we did the impossible and released 8 snapshots in a week. This review will cover {1201..1208}.

Interesting updates delivered this week:

  • Linux Kernel 4.8.12
  • Kernel Firmware 20161130
  • Mesa 13.0.2
  • More drivers updated for X.org 1.19.0
  • Emacs 25.1 – now with webkit support
  • Preparations for systemd 232 and GTK 4; no impact (yet)

That already gave some hints on what is coming your way and what is currently being worked on:

  • X.org 1.19.0 – Apparently there are some issues with switching between Text and GUI mode
  • Systemd 232 – Staging just started. Let’s be surprised
  • GTK 4.0 (3.89.0) is in the pipeline. It is parallel-installable to GTK2 and GTK3
  • krb5 1.15 – supporting AES-SHA2
  • Linux Kernel 4.8.13 (or newer)
  • KDE Applications 16.12.0 (currently 16.11.90 in Staging to iron out issues)
