openSUSE Tumbleweed – Review of the weeks 2019/20 & 21

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,

Another weekly review was skipped – and I am thus once again reporting over a timespan of two weeks. There have been 7 snapshots released in this timeframe (0510, 0512, 0514, 0516, 0517, 0520 and 0521).

The major changes include:

  • GNOME 3.32.2
  • Linux kernel 5.0.13, 5.1.2 & 5.1.3
  • QEmu 4.0.0
  • Libvirt 5.3.0
  • Wireshark 3.0.1
  • KDE Frameworks 5.58.0
  • KDE Applications 19.04.1
  • openSSL 1.1.1b
  • PostgreSQL 11.3
  • Systemd 242
  • GCC9 is now providing the base C-Libraries

The next days/weeks will bring these changes, that are currently worked on in Staging areas:

  • GCC 9.1 as default compiler for the whole distro
  • Qt 5.13 (once the beta phase is over)
  • Linux kernel 5.1.4
  • Mozilla Firefox 67
  • CMake 3.14: zypper fails to build (fix is in git, but not submitted yet)

  • LLVM 8
  • TeXLive 2019
  • KDE Plasma 5.16 (currently also in beta)
