openSUSE Tumbleweed – Review of the week 2015/51

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,

After a week of fighting some OBS issues, we’re back in business and some snapshots could be produced, tested and delivered to you.

The most notable updates were

  • Mesa 11.0.7
  • DBus 1.10 – The basic setup for the well-known system and session buses is
now done in read-only files in ${datadir} (normally /usr/share)
  • freetype 2.6.2 – a minor update, but it impacts the font rendering; glyphs appear less bold
  • openssl 1.0.2e – you shall be protected again
  • btrfs/fstrim timer is being enabled using the presets

Things that are currently in staging (and might need attention)

  • Plasma 5.5.1 – Newly entered, no issues known yet. It will take a moment as, again, the UI changes which means openQA has to learn about the new design
  • Kernel 4.3.2 – the kernel package layout change (you remember, -xen is being merged into -default) is still in need of fixes in other areas (see boo#959126)
  • systemd 228 – when openQA switches to tty1, there is no login prompt, seems like getty@tty1.service is not spawning properly (see boo#959764)
  • gcc 5.3.1 – so far only minor issues identified, but more might show up

The next couple weeks might be quite – or not: it depends on how many of our contributors will find time to hack on openSUSE during the christmas period (for the ones celebrating and caring for it).

Have a great weekend ahead!

    awesome stuff…

With Plasma 5.5.1 will we also see the new KDE Applications 15.12 and Frameworks 5.17?

Indeed, KApplictions and K Framework actually are in the same staging project… sorry for not mentioning them explicitly
